No transmission change alone will allow your one ton to beat even a mildly tuned sedan. Pretend your truck is a truck and race the Chevelle.

The granny low you have in there now is good for towing.

I think you need a 572 with a 4L80. No, wait a minute, that's what I need!

Burn outs just mean you aren't hooking up, and whatever transmission you choose won't change that, either. The rice burners will just disappear in a cloud of smoke; yours. Most people only use low gear (on a truck fourspeed) for starting a heavy load or if they just want to idle slowly along while loading hay bales, etc. You will find you have better quarter mile times if you start in second. Time your truck at a local drag strip; I think you will find that it is a lot slower than you think. Compare your timing slip with the advertised quarter mile speed of any modern vehicle to see how it stacks up.

I start mine in 2nd. Shift into 4th at about 25. Hitting 50-55 I bend rods. That's fine by me. I get more people looking when they have to pass me and I don't have to spend so much time on maintaining the performance.

Used to have an SS Chevelle 350 with a turbo 350 (i think ... whatever was stock automatic). Person before me thought performance meant an oversized Holley that was overjetted. Didn't add much the the speed of what was already a pretty fast car, but it sure did make it fun when the secondaries got stock.

For a good burnout with that, I'd just do the old neutral drop. Problem being I was 20 and had no money for tires.

If you wanted to improve the performance of your truck trannie, couldn't you simply re-gear the rearend and not worry as much about the gear ratio's? I'm not the expert there. My four speed is 7.23:1 in first so I'm not sure if a rear end gear change would do much in that situation.

If it ain't broke, take it apart and figure out why!
