Unless it's something weird, if you were in the shop of most of the guys who post here you would be running in less than a hour. The mechanical part of your system would my first place to start. Turn on your key and use a small test light or pull the wire and see if it sparks against a ground.
If you have no power going in, then you will not have power to the points.
If you do have power then the problem is forward of that wire.
Do this and then let us know what you find.

I checked your profile and your past posts, but am still not sure what engine you have in your '56 3100. This fact might make a difference in the way you troubleshoot this problem. Did I miss this info.

My orginal 1954 cable had pulled away from inside the connector if you pushed and pull I could get the truck to start...just a thought, Steve | | |
