I found a military waterproof distributor for a GMC and would like to use it in my 235,will it fit as I found someone who could convert it to electronic and it would look neat in my truck. Jeff

I do beleive that the distributors are completely interchangable from the GMC to the Chevy on those engines.

the waterproof military dizzy was 24 volts... guess that doesn't matter if you are having it redone

Would check to make sure the drive gear on the distributor matches the cam. Pre55-235 engines ran forged cams with forged distributor gear, while the 56 and new engines run a cast cam and should use the cast gear. The distributors swap, but running the wrong distributor gear can play havoc with your cam.

The forged gears tend to be smoother on the flat sides while a cast gear has a rougher side surface but it's best to varify with parts numbers. I learned this the hard way. Hope this helps you avoid my mistake.

I believe that the early 235 engines are the ones with the cast cam( Milk Can Lifters). All the high pressure 235's and 261's used the forged cams. All GMC motors, 228-302, used a Cast cam. So the distributor would have to be changed out if it is a high pressure 235 or 261.
