My truck is a 1947 one ton stakebed srw. On the one ton forum LONGBOX55 suggested that the rearend might be from a '41 1 1/2 ton. I've gone through a lot of web pages and none of the shop manuals show the large hub flange that this one has. The rearend has a large raised GMC logo and ten bolts two of which are out of order. It looks newer than the rest of the vehicle. The previous owner said it cruised at 55 mph?? It has 2000 Ore. tags and was used as a movie prop and could have have had work done previously.
here are pictures of the rearend.

Ive been under a lot of them & have never seen anything like that. I wonder if it could be an old railroad truck were they had the wheels offset & railroad wheels inside. It may have been modified for the movies.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

I'm not familiar with that either, but my guess is it's original to the truck. (assuming the truck is a GMC)

Have you looked in the old parts book?

For GMC ??

Thanks for your help guys. 3B identified it in the parts manual. If it'stamped 81978 then it's P/N 2133491, If stamped 82951 then it's 2213259. However the model is EC252. Th EC is shown as a 1935 model??

GMC built an EC280 series from 1946 to early 1947 and an FC280 through 1953. My guess is that may be what you have. The 280 series were sometimes called 1 ton specials, 1 1/4 ton and sometimes 1 1/2 specials. They were very popular in small school buses of that period. Most of them had dual wheels. Some were 18" and some were 20". Many years ago I bought some of the old buses for the engine, transmission and radiator and tires and wheels and scrapped the rest. Seems to me they had funny looking adapters on them, but I'm not sure if they were quite as strange looking as yours.

I have quite a few GMC books. Probably the best one is the GMC Master parts book 100 through 470 models, 1939-1950 and 100 thru 470 1951 thru 1954. They are not easy to find. One sold on eBay a couple of days ago for $63. Faxton or Walter Miller might have one.

I got the info out of the master parts catalog. I'm brand new at this so I'm slowly finding my way around. Kinda like walking through a dark room. Could you tell me where you found your info. Thats a cool looking stake flatbed you got there. I'm thinking about painting mine the same color.

I overlooked the statement that its an EC252. That would make it a 46 250 series. They used a bevel gear and a hypoid. If it has a GMC logo on the cover it has to be a hypoid. As far as the hub, I have never seen anything quite like it. Does it have dual wheels? They made aftermarket dual wheel adapters in those days.

If you were looking in a Chevy manual "EC" was used to identify the 1935 Chevy Standard Passenger cars...
