Did they make a mechanical temp guage for the 55-56 assembly? A friend said he thought that they did once before changing to electrical. He said that they will mount in the asembly I have. But are they out there ? where?

the 55 2nd had mechanical, and possibly some of the first 56's, and they have the same face as the later electric gauges ... you'd need to find good used if you want the mechanical style

Thanks Bill - Thats what I will have to do. Found I have 53 heads with the small temp sending tap. Unable to find a smaller sending unit to match the ohms out put needed for the electrical guage. I am getting ready to repaint the dash area and have removed everything. Also rewiring. Considering replacing the vacuum wipes motor. I have the standard heat unit but delux control. Don't need the new cables I got - nothing to control but the blower. Also posted on looking for a driven speedometer gear 20 tooth for my 3 speed. Everytime I fix one thing two more appear. Googled the 55 temp guage tonight. I appears that Danchuck has a new reproduction of the 55 mechanical guage for each the 6cyl or v-8. About $75 + s&h

Looks like that would be a real tight fit to try to make it fit the same spot as the old electrical one. The Car temp looks substanially bigger.

if you could switch faces and cut off the back plate I don't see why it wouldn't work - sometimes ya gotta work with what ya got
