Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 40 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 40 | I'm going to pull up the metal strips from the original floor and lay down 5/32 marine grade plywood down over the original floor and then put new metal strips back down. I found an aluminum edge for the front and rear edges but I need some advice on what to do with the wheel wells. Any ideas on how to treat those edges? The new floor will come to the edge of the flange of the wheel wells but not go over the top of the flanges. I'm looking for a way to cover the floor bolts for the flanges and form around the wheel wells.
I know the original floor is an oversized piece of plywood so I am going to cut the new plywood in strips and the new trim will cover the joints between the strips,
Thanks
Mike

or maybe I should ask what are you covering up, and if it's bad enough, why not remove the old floor and replace it?

Let us know how it went taking those strips up, I like what you gonna do. I just went to the edge of the wheel wells, and be sure to seal the edges of the plywood. I'm looking for a bendable edge strip to use on the sides and around the wheel wells. I'm grinding off the tops of the bolts on the old strips and just knocking them thru the floor. I'll replace them with new ones when I put down the new strips. I'm going for the look of a pickup bed look with the new floor cut into strips and laid over the old floor. When the new plywood is finished, I will put the strips of plywood down and alternate the grains so it looks like a hard wood floor. I will be using a product called Merranti which is a hardwood 3ply marine exterior plywood and I'll finish it like the deck of a boat so it shines. Pics of the project are at www.bens58.com Mike
