I posted on an earlier thread a couple days ago and appreciated the response from tim and jimmi.

After looking at the heater and removing it. It does not appear to be a recirculating heater. No water control valve. No hand lever to switch to defroster. There is a cable attachment to a lever to open and close a flap on the door.

There is an old round Chevrolet label in the front and a manufacturer's label with: Harrison H-02-47.

The unit is in bad shape. rusted though parts of the cabinet. I have not been able to locate cabinet parts. Heck, I'd be interested in a complete re-built one, but have not see one.

any help appreciated.

Stickler,

Earlier discussion about this heater,

You'll most likely will have to post link_s to pictures in order to be sure that people are posting advice that is appropriate for your heater.

The recirculating heaters did/do not have a "water control valve".

Recirculating had a round heater core and the fresh air or airflow had a more squared heater core.

STickler, If its a Harrison H-02-47 it sounds like its like mine. My heater has the same numbers on it and is what I think is called the Fresh Air Heater. Does your heater look anything like this. This is my heater....I haven't put the new decal on the front yet

What you heater has...or don't have may be the work of some previous owner. You have to look for tale tall signs something may be changed or just done awasy with.

H-02-47 pic

Deves heater pics

I have that same heater in my 50. With firewall mounted ranco valve.
That model heater may not have been used for your year truck.

Check e bay under harrison heater or chevy truck heater.
A post on the parts wanted section of this forum may help also.

Good Luck

Bolters,
First off, thank you everyone. And sorry for my steep learning curve and not quite correct questions.

My heater looks like achipmunks, only rustier and dirtier - thanks so much for posting the pics. So it's a Fresh Air heater I am in search of.

My heater is in sad shape some pieces are salvagable. However, the metal case surrounding the core is rusted out. Its also Missing the control valve and rod assembly.

I'll take the advice of posters and will check ebay and post on a wanted. I'm also checking out the many links this site has for vendors.

Kindest regards,

Put an add in the parts wanted section. You might try calling Jim Carter,he's in the process of having brand new reproduction cores built.

Stickler,

Technically, if you want to match the original 1954 truck's "deluxe" heater, you are looking for an "Air Flow" heater from 1953-1955 GM trucks (it is slightly different from the earlier Fresh Air Advance-Design heater). So, the 53-55 it is slightly different from the heater that Achipmunk nicely restored.

The 53-55 heater has an interior door that is opened/closed by a cable-control. That cable-control was formerly used to open/close the defrost-deflector flap on the pre-1953 Fresh Air Heater. In 53-55 the Air Flow Heater's defroster flap was controlled with a lever/handle that is right on the heater body.

I have a stock heater out of my 54 3100 which I don't plan on using. I pulled it out about a year ago but I think it is in good shape. I would be willing to sell it but haven't a clue what they are worth.
