Two questions.

1. I got "conical" springs and J hooks in my brake hold down kit, but can't see where they go on a 1950 1/2 ton chevy. Looks like they are for an earlier year. Is that correct?

2. I only found the parking brake shoe lever and strut on the driver side. Was there not one on the other side for 1950? Also the entry hole for the cable on the passenger side seems backwards - faces rearward.

Any help appreciated.

I thought I saw this post before but here is a reply. It seems that in 1950 you would still have the Huck brakes on the 1/2 Ton. They have adjusters on the wheel cylinder. According to this page in the manual,
Shop Manual -Brakes
your brakes would not have the conical springs.

Also, you need a parking brake spreader lever on each side.

I've got a 1950 Cdn-built 1/2 ton with the stock braking system. I've posted a few pictures on my blog (1950chevy.blogspot.com) that might be of help. I'd be happy to add other photos if there are some angles you might want to see.

Cheers,
Fraser

The J hook & spring are brake shoe holdowns. There are variations in them so the ones on there might have been different.
There should be emerg. brake hardware on both wheels. If the opening is faceing the rear, somewhere down the line someone has replaced it with the wrong side. Is there a boss on the front side where a guy can drill the hole & put a hole plug on the back one.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

Thanks for the updates. The passenger side does not have the pieces in the hub for the parking brake. (the hook that hooks on the brake cable and the strut that pushes the other shoe). I will have to find some donors. I will do what my father-in-law did. Use bricks (they were in the truck and now I know why)!
