I was told to move this question to this forum.

I have a 41 G506 4x4 Dump, with a 235 and 4 speed. I must admit I am unsure of what the stock trans is (sm420 I think) Maybe some one could fill me in on that. I am looking to put a SB350 in it. My issue is the trans. The current trans has the PTO on the side that I need for the dump bed. I'm leaning towards putting a Sm465 in it.

So I guess my questions are:
1. Is it possilbe to use the stock trans?
2. Would I be better off using a SM465?
3. If I were to use the sm465, will the PTO side mount from the old trans bolt to the 465?
4. What modifications to the clutch linkage will be necessary if I went with the sm465?

Thanks inadvance for the info!

As stated in the other thread, I have not done this swap.

There is an adapter plate available to put a TH350, TH400, or 700R4 transmission behind an old stovebolt. Perhaps you can use this adapter plate in reverse to secure the sbc to the stovebolt bellhousing. This would locate your original bellhousing in the same place it is now, so clutch linkageand operation should be the same. New front motor mounts will have to be made up. The exhaust will probably be tight against the steering, and either the exhaust or steering may have to be modified. A nice Fan shroud should hlp the sbc pull air through the radiator.

I believe you may even be able to run a 55-59 12 volt stomp starter and retain the foot start aspect. Again, I have never done this, but I would look into the adapter if I were going to attempt this swap.
