on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 18 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 18 | hopefully someone can help me with this. i am putting a th 350 in my 66 c10. my problem is i dont have a crossmember for it. and i cant afford to spend $100 on a new one. I would like to build one. I dont know anything about transmissions, someone told me the trans has to be at just the right angle to work right so it doesnt go through u joints fast. my question is how do i find that angle. any help would be greatly appreciated. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 188 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 188 | Put a straight edge across the bottom of your frame and measure up to the centre of the output shaft on your old tranny. Build a mount out of round pipe and bend it to fit onto the mount on your new tranny. Set your new tranny up at the same height as the old one first. You can weld some flat plates on the ends of the pipe to bolt to your frame. Just make good welds. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 18 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 18 | What do I do if I was a bonehead and already have the old transmission out. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 188 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 188 | Oh! Monsoon quit for a second. The centre of my tranny to the bottom of the frame is 5.5 inches. I've used the crossmember out of a camaro, nova or impala up to 1980 also as a cheap tranny mount. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 38 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2010 Posts: 38 | For what its worth here... I put a 350 in my 64 C20 about 25 years ago. All I did was put a piece of 3\4 x 2 flatbar in the bottom rail of the frame and the trans mount sits right on top. Been working fine all this time.Bolted it to the frame and off I went.
The glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
