Probably asked and answered before. I think I know the firewall is body color and the inner fenders are semi-gloss black, and the grille support, radiator support and front of inner fenders ivory. A previous repaint painted the top of the hood latch plate and is the top of the radiator brace body color, is this correct? Cant seem to see any color under the paint. Was painted red over Marine Blue. Any links to previous discussions accepted with thanks.

I've alway found the radiator support and latch panel came painted "black" like the inner fender aprons.

I agree, if my memory serves me right the core support and latch plate are black.

It may depend on the factory that made the truck.

I've looked at allot of pic's of 1950 trucks since that’s the year of my truck.

The pics of original un restored 1950 trucks seem to have both upper and lower latch assemblies unpainted metal, and hood springs unpainted metal. Radiator supports are black
On my truck I painted the latch assemblies black.

The two photos below Show a very nice, maybe over restored truck, but show the latch assemblies and springs.

Thanks guys, I did notice the underside of the hood in the photos (nice ones too)is painted, is that normal practice? Mine is a lovely patina of rust.

Mine also had a nice patina
pic...click....

You can see a little red paint left. My truck was originally red. Underside of hood must have come from the factory body color.
As to what is normal practice, that is totally personal preference.
Most of the photo albums here the guys seem to paint body color.

Good Luck

My unrestored truck under hood matches the firewall. Which i suspect is the factory blue since all the places that the person who painted the truck missed is blue as well. (cowl vent screen, firewall, under the dash, etc.)

My underside of my hood and firewall were green, the same color as the original body. I know that because I sanded at least 3 other layers of paint on top of it to get to bare metal. My radiator support had nothing but black on it. The original inner fenders were cut up when we bought her, only black on them, but some green was on the bolt area that attaches to the firewall. Latch panel, black only!
