Hi All,

When I got my 66 c20 project truck from stovebolter Tony Smith back in 2006 (Ol Green) it had a non-running 6 in it. I thought it was a 250, but it turned out to be a 194. I figured someone put it in to get better mpg. At the time I swapped it for a 292 to get the truck on the road and since then I have had 5 motor swaps, a 250, another 292, a 327 and a 350. This Winter I put a 194 back in the truck!

I bought the 194 cheap and the seller said it ran good and had been rebuilt. It was in a 64 Nova wagon. When changing the 194 to a 292's oil pan, I could see the inside of the motor was fresh. For a carb, I put a Rochester Monojet off a 78 292 and for the ignition I added a MSD 5 to the stock setup. Once in the truck I thought the motor would bog down and have little torque and pep. I justified the swap because I only drive a few miles to work each day and was very tired of getting 8mpg from the 350 that was in it. Also, I was curious how the truck would run with a 194 since there was one in it when I bought it.

To my surprise, the 194 does not bog down or sputter, and she smoothly revs quite nicely! After a week and a half I am still on the same tank of gas, so I have not checked the mpg yet. On the highway it keeps up with traffic, no problem (4:10 gearing and 31" rear tires). I guess this swap has been a lesson for me and should reduce my time spent at the gas pumps!

I'm sold on inline 6's, I got 29+30 with the original engines the 29 I can balance a nickle on the valve cover when it idals! And I've got a 54 Plymouth flat head six
When I was in high school[like most kids your not as smart as you as you think you are] I had a 1962 Chevy II, 194 standard shift, it would smoke the tires! The only car I ever had that would do it! I could get more rubber in second rear than most car could do in low, run the day lights out of it and use $5 worth of gas a week Then I traded for a 62 Implala Sport Coupe 283 standard shift, cool car but would not get the rubber like the Chevy II and used $15 a week in gas!
