The motor is a bored out 283 with corvette cams. but there is a exhaust leak where the manifold bolt to the actual exhaust pipe (3 bolts). the owner said the donut seal might be crooked. could this cause a backfire? he said it also might be running a little lean, but it cant be much because the idle is still a great low lope.

It could be a lean condition or slow timing. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. The accelerator pump should shoot a stream of gas like a water pistol. If it doesn't, you need to overhaul the carburetor. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 843 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2010 Posts: 843 | Dalyman72, if the accelerator pump is shooting a weak stream or no stream a quick fix that costs nothing is oiling the accelerator pump leather plunger to restore its elasticity.
