For what size/year engine?

That's still pretty high, but they're an oddball length and they have a deep groove ground around the center for oil flow between lifter bores. There's probably not enough sales volume of lifters for a 50+ year old engine design to bring the price down.

Is it a 1958 automobile 235?
A 1958 truck 235 could have hydraulic lifters that were put in in after delivery.
