Fitting it up on a 235 the rear carb won't clear the drivers side fender brace bar on the 52pu even using the insulators under the adaptor. Any one work this issue? Will the fender sag?

Are you running a cammed up engine? He suggested running the Offy 2X1 with lower cfm Carter/Webers on my stock 56-235 or a single Holly/Weber (about 270 cfm). I went with the single Holly/Weber, found it's performance was great, but intend to run the Offy 2X1 setup on my rebuilt 60-235. I want to get the correct combo up front.
Secondly Dave, let me get a clarification on the cross brace....you're saying that you added a dog leg to the dr. side brace....not eliminating it. Correct? I found that they were really pretty critical in getting and keeping the front sheetmetal secure, aligned, and rattle free. I've seen some trucks without them, and noticed the dreaded "ill-fitting" hood syndrome.
Thanks in advance. | | |

Yup, thats right 2 lower cfm carter/webber's on the 235 and if running a single use the holley/webber. Make sure you have manifold heat, use the insulators, regulator set at 3+1/2 lbs and install an after tank before the pump inline high pressure stainless fuel filter like found on a 93 chevy truck on the inside frame rail. The filter is high capacity.

The hood fitting problem isn't usually caused by the doghouse but rather by the fact that the hood spring/hinge ***'ys are just fussy as can be. That area will drive you to drink but the front end really floats up/down on the radiator surround bottom. You must shim it accordingly. The fender side braces are there to help with the shake rattle and roll. Of course the engines purr so smooth that we never have any of that.

I also had to move the fender support. We just made a plate where it bolts to the fire wall to move it down and reshape the rod slightly. It has worked very well for LOTS of miles and LOTS of trips down the 1/8 mile drag strip. You can see my set up in the Photo Gallery under Ron and Kim Plender's 1950 pickup. The truck runs well and still gets 20+ mpg down the highway. We drive it everywhere - my wife leaves her '98 Camaro in the garage!
