For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 38 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 38 | I an going to reinstall the axles. How is the axle flange sealed to the hub? When I took it apart, it had aluminum shims or gaskets. I purchased (NOS) what were to be gaskets for the axle flange; they are steel. Are they really gaskets or shims? Should I use gaskets cut from gasket material? Are shims needed? How do I finish this job? | | | | | Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 48 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2010 Posts: 48 | The factory manual says to make sure the surface is completely clean and oil free or the axle bolts will loosen up on their own. The gaskets are a soft alloy. They will crush some. I got some at NAPA recently. Whatever you do don't use gasket material! I can go get the FelPro number off them if you want. If your NOS gaskets are rusty at all don't use them.

Speaking of Fel-Pro, do you know of a good inclusive catalog source for their products? I was unable to find a banjo gasket on-line. I finaly got one through o'Riley auto parts. | | |
