I have a 60 Chevy Suburban K10 six cylinder and I'm trying to figure out how the factory installed the V8s in the K10 frame. If any of you could advise it will be a great help. Thanks,Jon

Seems like they used a U-shaped bracket on the front of the engine.

Yep my 60 Apache-10 has a ushaped bracket that bolts to the front of the block and has one bolt down on the bottom. Then my bellhousing has side mounts. I think my bellhousing came from a 55 chev. car.

I see that U shaped bracket on regular trucks but on a 4x4 theres no crossmember to set it on, Thats my dilema.The crossmember thats on my trucks is a bent 3 inch round pipe that dips below the oil pan. Seems to far forward to get the V8 to mount. Any ideas ?

i asked to because on my 62 k-20 it at 1 time had a 283 and i dont know either how it was mounted

It was more than likely side mounted perhaps similar to the 63-66 years. they had side perches that were on either side within the frame rails. 2 wheel drives all had that large frt crossmember for the frt end. 4 x 4's don't have that so have to mount differently.
other than that if you I6 mounted on that 3" round pipe ,your 283 may mount there as well, utilizing the same frt mounting that was used on the 265 engs in 55-56 cars and I believe l/duty trucks up to 59. they used those 2 vertical 3/8 threaded holes on either side of the frt crank pulley

that bellhousing could be a 60 in a 4 x 4. don't know whether or not that they used the hydraulic clutch in a 4 x 4 as they didn't have the same frame problem as a 2 wh/dr in 60-62. perhaps someone can correct this?

I have a 60+61 K10s, all have hydraulic clutchs. I just looked up the part numbers in my Chevrolet parts books and it does state a Different " Support Assembly, Front part number 3771503" for 4x4 only V8 trucks and 3770820 for six cylinder. Problem is it does show what it looks like

My 68 parts book states the side mount for K10 as 1963-1966. Anyone have a factory V8 K10-K20 ?? Joe do you have pictures of the frame mount in your 62 K20 ?

Joe can you look and see if yours has the round front cross member and if the mounting pad on it is in front or behind the cross member. My 6 cylinder cross member has the mounting pad in front.

Look at the picture link Joe you can see how the engine is mouted with the pad in front for the six, wondering since you said yours was a 283 if the pad is reversed ? or on the back side of that tube. This might be the difference in these crossmembers from V8 to six

thats the same as my 60 k-20, the v8 must of had that mount reversed like you said. i would like to see a pic of 1 to make sure.

Correct but if its a V6 it is not used to mount the engine .The V6 was side mounted to the frame. Or at least my original 62 K10 GMC Sub is like that. JK

Me to, want to make sure I do it right the first time. I measured from the Bellhousing forward and its right where it should be. JK

I need the tube and horseshoe for mine ,they were off the truck when i bought it

I don't have a pic right now. 0 deg. and I have to see if my car will start to go to town. Sounds like the 4x4 is different - mine is 2wd but I will try to get a pic unless someone beats me to it.
