Trying to locate my Vin# on my 1943 Chevy Fire Truck but cant locate it. I have to have a police officer come over and verify the vin so I can get it titles & tagged but I have to find it first. I heard that it may be stamped in diffrent locations like the engine or under the body or on a axle somewhere. Any suggestions on where to look to narrow my search? Thanks so much!

Try the following:

http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/VIN.htm

It says "For the '39-'46, it should be found on the right side of the cowl, under the hood."

On my '56 Chevy 3100 the vin plate is on the "A" pillar driver's side door jamb. But there is also a stamping on the frame next to the steering box.

Hopefully this will help and maybe somebody else will chime in.

BTW-----sweet ride.
