The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Chevy 250 i6 Optinos

New to the forums here, trying to get some info on a truck to help my final decision on purhcessing it. First of all, the engine compartment looks really cluttered. If i'm correct these carburetors are 2 barrle, is there a better looking air filter i can get? I really want to clean it up. Possibly a chrome valve cover, or just a nicely painted black one.
Ebay does not have many parts for these engines, unlike the 235 and other strait six's. Does this engine share common parts to the 250?

The 235 and 250 are completely different motors. Should be a 1 barrel carb on it. Performance parts are available. Headers intakes chrome covers etc. You mention it looks quite cluttered. You might have an integral head 250 from a newer truck. They had a 2 barrel. Integral means the head and intake are cast in 1 piece. No performance parts for this type motor though. Can you give a link to a pic. Easier to identify.

those later model 250 with the integral head are cluttered. you can switch over to regular head and manifold set up and get rid of all the extra junk. you can get as many performence parts as any other 6- cam, head work and headers if you swith heads, different carb, lose the smog, and intake. might check into a cast aluminum valve cover, they work a lot better than cheapo chrome ones they sell now. the stock one will seal better than the cheapos. good luck.
