I am in need of some exhaust manifolds for a 1983 305 Chevy that I'll be dropping into my '64 C10 this Spring. I will also be putting either an Edelbrock or Holley 600 CFM manual choke carb. on this engine. I was wondering if Rams Horns would fit on this and if I can use any casting numbers or if I have to go w/ a specific casting numbers? (I am looking at a 2" set vs a 2 1/2"...I don't think I'll need the extra umph the 2 1/2 would supply.) Thanks, JD

They should fit fine.

You should get the ones that fit that model truck. There are variations in them. Some have the exhaust outlet straight down & some at an angle. Some have provisions for alt. or gen mounting.

be careful some 305s have one bolt for the manifold off the alignment for the exaust usually onr at the end of the head and you will have to drill and tap a hole in in the proper place usually some heads have two holes on the flange in this place and some dont my 305 heads from 84 camero with crossfire injection had two holes and my 81 casting 305 heads did not i dont know why they did but they do have fun im still having to work on body work so im not in the fun part yet

Thanks for this input. I will check out what hole alignent I have. My eng. was built in 1983 and the heads were cast between 1980-1983. I was given a set of manifolds, but they aren't the rams horn type, but the kind that have the exhaust tail toward the rear of each manifold. I was told that rams horns are better because of the center draft, but if these were designed for this eng. woudn't it make sense that these are fine, or do they not fit into a '64 c10 w/o a lot of extra headaches?

Rear dumps won't fit w/stock engine mounts.

Manifolds are designed for the chassis. They all mount to a small block v-8 engine the same except for some variations like Mojave pointed out.

All my passenger-side ram's horns exit in the center, straight down.
One of the driver-side units is the same, and has alternator mount points on the front. Found it at a swap meet for $5.00.
Other one exits in center but turns back some at the flange...came out of a '66 station wagon w/ PG. I've used this one in my '65 C10, but had to put a dent in the head pipe for clutch linkage clearance. I'll use the straight-down ones when I put the V-8 back in, with custom dual exhaust.
As stated, watch out for motor mounts, clutch linkage, and also shift linkage, fuel and brake lines.

If you can't fix it with a hammer and screwdriver, you need a bigger hammer.

I checked out my '83 305 and all the exh. bolt holes seem to line up OK and are there. I found a set of rams horns that are already cleaned up and ready to go with new studs for $100 that I think I'll go for. Thanks for all the input this it really helped out! Can't wait until spring when I can actually get going in this. Janine
