The '55 is 6 volt and the '60 is 12 volt. I am changing the '60 235 engine bellhousing to use the '55 235 engine bellhousing. I have two choices. I can keep the truck 6 volt using the flywheel, starter with floor starter or I can use the '60 flywheel, starter and convert the truck to 12 volt. If I go with the 12 volt, I'll need to add a push button for the starter. There are some advantages in having a 12 volt system and some advantages in keeping the 6 volt system. Looking for some advise. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | look at things seperately, you can keep everything 6V by just using a 6V coil on the later engine along with the 6V flywheel and starter and the 6V gen/reg - you can change to 12V and still keep the 6V starter or you can find a 12V starter from 55-59 that still uses the foot stomp .... the main consideration is really the gauges and accessories when going to 12V

Keep us informed on your decision.

Also I use a 12 volt generator that is rebuilt . | | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 7 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 7 | i run my 54 daily 12v conv halogen headlites all been good 4 3yrs. still running 6v starter just never run it over 10 sec. & 1 min. let cool b4 cranking again | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | If you use 6 V horns on 12 volts, you can wake up the entire neighbourhood! The horns really deliver on 12 volts. | | |
