I found out that i need to install a short water pump and pully. my question is what and where do get a fan blade for it??? thanks Dave J | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | There has been a lot of discusion on that in these threads lately. I believe the fix-de-jour is an adapter from Jim Carter's & use the old pump from the 216.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. I used a fan off a '60 car 235. That fan blade has more pitch to it and draws more air than the older style fans. I had to use a .75" fan spacer and moved the radiator forward .75". For the purists that don't like to more the radiator forward, .75" is hardly noticeable. I can idle ona 90 degree day without going over 180-185 degrees. I've been running this set up for 12 yrs. as a daily work truck. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 45 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 45 | Why was the 3/4" spacer needed? I have run several trucks that way. However, I have heard nothing but good about the adapter and if I had it to do again that's the way I'd go.
If you do go the short shaft route you can shorten it yourself and use a Ford 292 pulley. The asking price for a shortened one is ridiculous. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 2,393 | If you have your 216 water pump, that is the short shaft pump you use with the adapter plate that you can buy from Pre-68 Dave who participates in Stovebolt Forums. Just use your stock fan with the adapter set up. There will be plenty of clearance between it and the radiator.

One detail that has not been mentioned here is to use the crankshaft pulley and the waterpump pulley from the 216, I believe. At some point the pulleys changed in diameter and mixing them can cause a problem. Maybe someone can add to this. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | I do not recommend using the 1955-62 passenger balancer with this adapter, mainly because the extra RPMs from the larger diameter pulley can lead to fan cracking.

This is the first step in the process. Mount the plate and locate holes that need to be drilled. http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL1061/3611363/23635594/394364044.jpg
