Hey i was wondering, about how much horse power and torque does my stock 1964 283 engine have? it says on the valve covers that its high torque, the engine is stock and has only a single carb.

the valve cover advertising doesn't mean too much - the 283 is about 175hp and 275# torque, strong reliable engine

Well, if you work with it you can get a speeding ticket with the 283.


1940 Chevy 1 1/2 ton, 1959 Chevy 1/2 ton, 1966 Chevy C20.

I can explain it to you but I can't help you understand it.

ha ha yea when i was driving it to my cabin after i bought it, it didnt have a speedo, and my buddy who was behind me watching my speed text me im going 25 over, the speed limit was a 55.
