Hello! I'm new to this site and it looks like I'm going to be spending quite a bit of time here. So here's my first question:
I have a 69 gmc C1500 with a 307/3 spd on the column. I acquired a 1969 gmc 2500 with a TH400 that I would like to put in my 1500. Has anybody here done this before? It appears to be a straight-forward swap, but I would like to hear if anybody has had any problems with a similar swap.

With the automatic-equipped truck as a donor vehicle, you shouldn't have much trouble. You'll need to swap such things as the radiator, rear crossmember, steering column, and a little wiring, since the TH 400 has an electrically-triggered 3/2 downshift. The front driveshaft spline will be different. As long as both trucks have the same wheelbase, the driveshaft for the auto should swap without a problem. If the wheelbase is different, you'll probably have to have it shortened or lengthened by a driveline shop.

One problem I had when geting my 69 C10 ready to convert to an automatic is that the 3spd crossmember is rivited to the frame and may be a real bear to remove with the engine in the way. Otherwise the swap should be straight forward

Sean-
You may also want to give some thought to a Power Brake swap after you install an automatic, even at idle your leg will get tired from holding enough brake pressure to keep the truck from rolling.
Good Luck!

Guy-
My friend I bought my truck from has a 72 Super Cheyenne that he told me he had swaped all of the later 73-86 suspension including the control arms on to. So a guy I work with was parting out a 73 C10 that had a cab fire, he torched the frame off at the fire wall and gave me everything including the brake booster off the firewall and the power steering. I am also planning on installing a 700r4 that I rebuilt, if I ever finnish the rust repair. Bessie looks great.

I didn't think about the power brake swap. But I know what you mean and its sounds like a good idea. Maybe I can just adjust the idle down a little instead. I'm going to start the trans swap soon. I'll post updates on any problems I have.
