When replacing the oil pressure tube from the rear of the V8 engine through the firewall to the rear of the guage on the cluster is there a proper way to do it?

What I mean is that it is full of air so do I need to have it loose on the guage side and start the engine and let the air bleed out and get oil up there by the guage?

Or does the quage work off the air getting pressurized by the oil that is pressurized by the oil as the engine runs and forces some oil up the line?

Also the new line I got from Classic Parts seems to hae a smaller hole in the line. It does not blow as easily as the old one. Is that OK? Does it just need a path to the guage but the size does not matter?

Hy svwilbur, there is no need to bleed the oil pressure gauge line, as long as the tube has a hole throught it the gauge should read. The smaller the diameter of the tube bore the slower the gauge will react to changes in pressure, hope that helps.

OK thanks. I have not tried it yet as this is part of my "rewire job". I gutted the interior of the truck, stripped everything to metal and primed and repainted and put in a shorter steering column and shifter to use the correct style deep steering wheel as orignal. For some reason mine had the 55 style steering wheel and column.

So I am doing all this as part of the steering, re-wire, re-paint job.

Hope to get it all going again in a week or so if I get to work on it a bunch over this Holiday break.
