I'm wondering because I have a steering column out of a truck that had a floor shift 3 speed and want to make it a 3 on the tree. Will I have to acquire another steering column. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 381 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 381 | The factory ('48-'53) columns that had 3 on the tree differ from those that had a factory 4spd floor shift. The difference is the columns for the 3 spd had 2 threaded holes up close to the steering wheel for the shifter bracket to bolt on. And, there is an elongated hole just above the steering box where the shifter control box would be mounted. The factory 4spd ('48-'53) columns don't have these holes. If your column is out of a '47 truck, both the 3 spd and 4 spd were floor shift. The '54 columns are a different length.
