The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot '60-'66 Trucks Dash Lights versus Gauges

I have a 1965 custom cab short bed fleetside with a 283 and a powerglide transmission. In looking at parts catalogs they often refer to the dash either having lights or gauges. How can you know which you set up you have?

I think what they are referring to is Gauges or idiot lights. The lights are the ones that come on when oil pressure is low, or engine overheats, etc. Not everything came equiped with gauges except for speedo.

Simple- if you see lights on your dash you have lights, and if you see gauges, you have gauges.LOL

Notice the Temp, Batt, Oil and Fuel gauges (pointer).

On the gauge clusters with the indicator lights the Temp, Batt and oil gauges merely have a light. You won't know if there is a problem until the light comes on, at which point you need to act fast!

Most people prefer gauges, which allow an "observant" driver to notice something different and fix it before it becomes a problem. But then again more than one motor has been destroyed by a driver not paying attention to the gauges.

answered my question as well..ordering a new 6volt harness works for 12v due to the 6v being heavier wire right?

keilkravec - someone sells a 6V harness for 60s trucks??

yup LMC Truck has ALOT of the 60's parts. More geared to chevys though from the looks of the catalog but i've ordered parts from them before and can vouch they are pretty good quality-wise..could use bein a bit cheaper but couldn't everything? haha
