On the gauge clusters with the indicator lights the Temp, Batt and oil gauges merely have a light. You won't know if there is a problem until the light comes on, at which point you need to act fast!
Most people prefer gauges, which allow an "observant" driver to notice something different and fix it before it becomes a problem. But then again more than one motor has been destroyed by a driver not paying attention to the gauges.
