lights, starter push button, horn all work. I have no fire to ignition switch and none to points. I have rechecked all wires and ohmed them all. Is an older coil but shouldnt i still get power? This is a revival on the 51 chev tin woodie (new motor) all original and wires dont look messed with. Ignition switch is removed would not turn but hooked up to a 50 chevy switch i know works. Please help im stumped.

You may want to install a new condenser in the distributor and a new coil. They only cost about $25. They usually carry them at Napa or Advance

Get a test light & see if you have curent going to the ign. switch from the amp. meter. If so turn on the switch & see if you have current in the wire going to the coil. If so see if you have current at the pos. side of the coil. If so open & close the points with a screwdriver & see if you have a small spark at the points. Pull the high tension coil wire from the dist. & put it near the engine. Each time you open & close the points a spark should come out of the coil wire.

I changed the condenser and coil still no good. There are three wires that come from the starter for power (2 large guage and 1 small guage). The small guage wire goes to ignition switch and ohms good but I dont think it has 6v to switch. Gonna use a jump wire to switch. How can I check power there at solenoid where the wire comes from?

Used a jumper wire from coil to ignition and worked fine, had fire to points. Even though the wire ohmed good it wouldnt carry voltage. Im sure its corroded somewhere within wire. Thanks fellas

You should have two wire going to the coil, one from the ignition switch and one from the starter solenoid. The ignition switch wire is a resistance (ballast) wire and drops the voltage to the coil for longer point life. The wire from the solenoid provides 12v to improve starting at start only.
