I have searched and can't come up with the definition of AD. The only reference I found, listed an AD as a 1/2 ton 1930 GM truck.
There was BC and AD which could mean any truck built after the first Noel, but that didn't narrow it down either.

Sorry, but the first line at that link contains a common error, George and Jon.

A-D refers to the Advance-Design series of Chevrolet trucks. The series started in mid 1947 and ran through "mid" 1955. Chevrolet/GM officially referred to the series as 1947 through 1955-1st series of trucks.

It was Advance-Design not Advanced-Design, and Chevrolet/GM almost always hyphenated Advance-Design (that is why some of us use the abbreviation A-D). GMC trucks during that same time-period were called New Design (ND).

What Gmo say's. It's the name that GM gave the new style pickup's that came out in '48. They used it till the early 55's.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

just Deco Boyd, or instead of that recent hobby moniker, the WW2 "vehicles of Victory" name that GM used: Victory Trucks [see 1945]

Gmoniz you said it correctly the first time. The link to Tims article has it spelled with a D "Advanced" which is wrong. That's what Tim is pointing out. It's Advance Design.

George,They came out in late 1947.2-1955.1

The Art Decos are called Art Decos, nothing short for them.

Cool pictures !!

Thanks,Tim

Sorry for not being clearer, George - your were right in your post but unfortunately, as Tim said, "Advanced" is used at the beginning of that article.

Chevrolet/GM never used the term Art Deco; however, the term fits nicely (and they are beautifully styled trucks).

And, as Tim & I posted, the Advance-Design trucks were introduced in 1947. Chevrolet/GM never called it 47-2nd; they just sold the 1946 style into 1947 until they ran out).
