...slow day. removed 3 broken bolts on front fender braces and then blasted them. Tomorrow I'll either prime/paint them or I may just go ahead and put a coat of POR15 on them.
....and tomorrow I will pick up my 12V heater fan motor from the parts house and see how it fits up to my Fresh Air Heater.
Way to go Cletis...... looks good but you forgot to paint the clutch linkage just kidding.
Well, I got my braces blasted/primed/painted. Also got the new 12V fan motor for my Fresh Air Heater from Advance Auto. Substantial savings if anyone needs one. I also got it back together, except of coarse, the heater core!
Yesterday I worked to start the engine. Bought it and installed it in the fall of 06 and yesterday I had to check out everything to make sure there were no loose ends. I turned on the key (first time since finishing my wiring last fall) my gauges lit up and when the oil pump was spun the pressure went up to 50# and the fuel gauge went up to 1/4 tank (I had put about 5 gal of gas in the tank). That was great and looks like, so far, my wiring is correct. However when I turned the key to crank it, it turned over (another + for my wiring) but there was a loud crunch/bump. It seems I had the fan a little close to the radiator. I really wanted to run an original fan so had to move the radiator support 1/2" forward. Looks like it should have been 1" forward. The radiator took a small hit and needed some welding but is good as new (which is what it was) now. I had to go out of town and won't be back until Monday. I'll crank her up then (cross my fingers).
Picked up an S 10 gas tank today. It sits between the frame rails and in front of the axle similar to my '48 original. Had to notch the angle brace on the frame, using original tank brackets, gotta make new straps. Of course the fill inlet in on the wrong side. Gotta fab a u-shaped tube to bring the fill to the original location on the side of the bed.
well it was'nt today but 2 days ago. I put a sway bar on the rear of the truck. decided the one from the ford explorer fit better than the one from cpp. It's amazing how well the truck handles now. next up are shocks for the back. I'm sure that'll be even better still. here's some pics: http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2506090440106850169ffwICJ
cleaned up the frame horns (prep for paint), removed the running board mounts, new plugs and wires, cap & rotor are all installed. got the parking brake un stuck and re assembled, started converting to 12 volt productive day at least in my feeble mind lol,

Today I got the tranny installed, bolted up the driveshaft, installed the shifters, adjusted the clutch, installed the flywheel covers and connected the wires to the OD.

1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in Scotland In the Stovebolt Gallery More pix on Flickr. I've definately got this truck thing in my blood ... my DNA sequence has torque settings "Of all the small nations of this earth, perhaps only the ancient Greeks surpass the Scots in their contribution to mankind" Winston Churchill.
Got the front fenders (outer and inner) bolted on. Tomorrow the hood, grill and doors. I am putting it together using stainless hardware. I bought a complete set of stainless from the front bumper to the rear bumper.
Haven't been able to get anything done, still wating for the weatherstrip to show up. Been 8 days since they got the incorrect back, not sure what's taking so long. Guess I'll have to call them and find out what the deal is, or request a refund and go elsewhere.
I've finally cleared the '58 235 off the operating table and have now moved on to the second engine. To my surprise, this engine is a '58 261 with 235 head. Oh yeah! It's the one I want to rebuild and put in my '59 Apache! I've removed the head, manifolds, fuel pump, starter, generator, oil pan and rod caps. The crank, pistons and cam really look good! I may have to removed the crank to get the pistons out from the bottom side though. Hopefully the cylinders can be cleaned up. The Thanksgiving holiday might slow my progress, but I don't mind pausing to give thanks... HAPPY THANKSGIVING, buddies! Jerry
Looks like I will need a push fan before trying to start it again. My radiator has tranny cooling but I opted to use a remote cooler. If she runs hot I'll run the lines to the radiator. I'll ask cooling fan questions on another thread. http://s729.photobucket.com/albums/...ew¤t=PB230346.jpg&newest=1
FINALLY got my 3 speed shifter box fixed, thanks to the link below showing pics of the correct spring placement. I've been messing around with this for two years, and putting up with the random sticking in gear, having to get out of the truck, pop the hood and jiggle to linkage into neutral. Someone, long ago, had installed the spring with its tail tension pushing against the 1st-Reverse shifter arm. I had no reference, as no manual I've seen has had a picture in which you can really see the spring. The tail is supposed to be on the floor of the shifter box. Wow, do I feel terrific about this. Problem solved...it shifts like a dream. Thanks for that pic!
scored an origonal radaitor for $30.with hoses, lowered the front end about 4 inches, marked out the new mounting plates for the axel and ordered the new longer u-bolts for the front axel, hooked up the steering box, and confirmed purchase of new rims and tires to pick up sunday,
still looking for that elusive cab and title combo for the right price,
and bestof all i found the year correct collectors truck licence-plate for the 41' that i can register to the truck

Just finshed droping the pistons out, some how water got into 3 and 6. all looks good, can still make out some hash markes on the cyl. walls so it looks like I sould be good, no broken rings getting them out. time for the hone and new rings. just when we thought we were getting ready to wire it up and get it running.
Well, I finally found time to work on my "New To me" 54 hotrod....
Two weeks ago I bought a 54 1/2 ton that has had some work (some OK, but some not my standards) done to her... But I drug her home anyway, put her in a nice clean shop & made a promise to her that she would be running by April Fools day (figured that was a good date as not many geezers like me undertake a project like this.. hence April Fool)
Anyway, today I got the front end off, cab cleaned out & the bed unbolted.... and after I fondeled her a bit I had a beer & cigar to celebrate the progress.
More to come.. When finished, she will be a nice street rod... SBC, Camaro front clip & 4 Bar rear end etc.
Sounds like you have it figured out. Now how about a picture album starting today. It really makes a difference when you start putting stuff back together to have a crumb trail back to where your stuff began. Also it helps the guys here when they discover they need a picture of something.
After avoiding it, I finally tore into the drivers side front axle to replace the kingpin (did passenger side a few weeks back) Everything removed except for the kingpin itself (had to take a break from the hammering) Right side fought me alot so it's no surprise that the left side is too. Actually the left side is fighting me more. Had a hard time pulling the drum, turns out a spring had broke and the brake shoes were against the drum and catching on a lip inside the drum. The lower bolts had "attached themselves" to the steering arm, After hammering failed to free the front one I tried a breakover to spin the bolt (and hopefully free it) but snapped the bolt instead. I still need to get whats left of the bolt out of the steering arm. So in other word just the normal fun of working on a 60 yr old truck
you are so right! I don't know why I avoided learning how to do that for so long. It isn't hard & I love be able to see how the truck is progressing & to be able to share it with y'all & others.
Took a look at your 3600, liked the color, I have been looking for a green that looks like my 66 gmc color but has a updated look to it. May I ask what color your used ?? Thanks, Kieth

I don't remember the name of the color right now. I would have to get back to Dallas and check the can. It was from a mid 90s ford truck however. Send me a PM and I'll let you know.
Got the cab inner patch panels fabed and finished welded into place. Got the door jamb lower section finished welded too. Fit and preped the exterior panel for later this week. All drivers side. Waiting to see about my radiator first of the week. Least it held up long emough for the 235 to run before it started pouring coolant

I just hope it aint my back.
