I have a 66 GMC fleetside w/ 400 small block w/origanal 4 spd.My problem is when I take off it makes a noise something like a u joint but the u joints seem to be ok,it is a sort of ringing noise that you can tell is around the drive shaft,any ideas?

Steady bearing comes to mind. Do you have a 2 piece driveshaft.

You can't tell everything about u-joints with out removeing the drive shaft. Pull the drive shaft & check the carrier brg. like Got say's. Then check the u-joints. They should flex without binding & have no play in them. If the drive shaft is ok you might have to look into the rear end.

I have a 1 piece driveshaft,going to change rear end gears anyway so I will check that out. Thanks
