on the 47-54 clam doors is there really any difference in the hinges in respect to different years???
i have been told that there is a difference on the upper hinges but noone seems to know what they are,,, then when talking to a guy last night i was told that its the lower hinges that are different but he didnt know whet the diff was,,,,,,
i know G is gonna compare his sets this weekend so thank you
and all the hinges for the AD burb have been the same.
so if there is what are they?????

According to the parts list, yes.
1947/50:
The hinges are Left upper end gate #3809089 & Right upper hinge #3809090 These are complete units. ([color:#CC0000 ]
These are the repair parts:
They also need: PIN upper door hinge link #3800503
&
Washer #3800504
&
Bearing #3800505
[color:#CC0000]1951/54:[/color]
The hinges are Left upper end gate #3808047 & #3808048 I believe these are complete units too, plus they need to have the housing installed on the Suburban to work. (Tentatively confirmed, I have a NOS one to compare.) Stamped on the end gate side of the hinge is #3808059 and the tag is gm3808047

I know there is a pin and acorn nuts to put the two halves together, but I did not find them on the list.
The next question will be: Is there any differences in with the upper and lower tail gates between the years?
The answer according to the parts list is no.

so if there is what are they????? Now I have my hands full. I am going to take apart my upper end gate and compare the hinges that I have. I will take pictures, but I won't be able to post them right away. I have never removed hinges from a 47/50, I have removed several from 1951/55's. From just looking at them casually, they appeared the same. Unfortunately, mine are welded in :mad: I knew there was a reason I was looking for a set. I have not opened the rear hatch for a while.  I do not think it will be a problem to install the later model hinges in the 48. I will search this out, but if GM could do, why can't we? It's not that big of a difference. The end gate lid uses both of the hinges so it is only the top header that needs modification. I prefer the og. hindges and I have not yet started work on the truck so, I can hold that off till the spring and hope someone finds a set laying around. then I will sell the set I have.
