I got both manuals and as a newby to the trucks was very happy. I also picked up the Fact Assembly Man. on CD from Faxon Auto Literature and it is great. I can now get all the drawing on my computer, zoom in to read the little print, and print the pages for when working at the truck. If they get dirty, just print another. This was great advise. I bought a Shop Manual already and I was wondering if you were only going to have one assembly manual would you recommend the book manual or CD? Where did you get the CD?

I might if I had a computer in my shop and it stayed booted up all the time. It's just quicker for me to get to the book and get answers. Also if you're working in a confined place/position and need to read directions, it would be hard to have your computer in there with you.
Remember there are three different instruction manuals/CD, a shop manual with mostly words and few helpful pictures, a CD of the shop manual and the factory assembly manual. I would chose the assembly manual as it is the one I use most all the time.

Some parts are different and since I have some missing, a GMC version would be cool...
