I know that a 1.5 ton 4 speed has an open driveline yoke, Are there others that have the yoke as opposed to tube attachment?
My purpose is to swap out the torque tube components on my 1/2 ton, an otherwise stock truck, I know what rear I need, but not sure which trans. I want to get more top end speed. Is it possible to swap the tailshaft and or housings to accomplish this or do you have to swap out the entire trans?
thanks.

Hy John53, in theory you can swap parts to turn your torque tube type transmission into an open driveshaft type, using the bigger truck transmission parts. The two transmissions are actually the same inside. As to the more speed, I assume you're going to switch to a higher speed differential gear set, if you're going to play with transmissions anyway, why not install an overdrive transmission of the appropriate size? Lest We Forget.

Hey 3B, thanks for the reply,
It might come to that, I plan on driving this truck a few times to work, but that means freeway speed for about 15 miles each way. So, that would mean switchin the crash box for a T5 I guess.
I may have to locate one.
I am trying to locate a 55-62 1/2 ton diff,
hoping that was all i was goin to swap out,
Then If I do opt for the T5,
then why not swap out the low pressure 216 for a 250,
then I won't have any mismatch issues,
hmmm ,, decisions decisions..
