For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 222 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 222 | So I'm trying for a pretty original look with my '50 1/2-ton pickup but I have an opportunity to buy some pretty nice '57 15" wheels with good condition white wall 215/75-15 radials on them for pretty cheap. I originally wanted 16" wheels because I think they look more legit, more 'old farm truck'. Do any of you have a setup like the one I'm proposing, i.e. 15" wheels and 75-15 tires on an AD truck, and will it look okay? Anyone have photos of this setup? Hmmm... so I'm basically talking about duplicating the setup on the top photo without the lowered springs... I mean, the wheels look small to me, but I can't tell how much of that effect is just the lowered springs...
So you're saying that "215 (on 15" rims) are about 1 1/2" shorter in diameter" (than 16" wheels w/ stock tires)?
Thanks again for the input. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | I don't think they will look good at all. I like the 235-75x15 on all the old trucks. A lot depends on the width of the wheel also. 8 in. wheels are even a little to wide for the 235's. 7 in. work best. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | | | | Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 222 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2010 Posts: 222 | Sounds like good advice. From your input and DADS50's photos, I'm leaning towards passing on this one. The 215’s are approx 1 1/2 shorter in diameter than the 235's on the 15's. I believe the stock diameter is 29", but maybe a wheel and tire guy can confirm. caculator In my view the 215's on a stock height truck and springs would not look right. The tire would not fill the wheel well. But that’s just my opinion. No offense to the other contributing answers to this question, but, in my opinion, 235 tires look too big, at least, for a 37 1/2 ton pickup. I had some on my truck and they were over powering. They might look better on a 47-54, but I would be careful about oversizing the tires, if you want a "stock" look.

Good Luck How much lower is the truck in the top pic than stock? and in the other pics in that folder you had some longer studs on your rotors did you do that to clear the disc brakes on a stock 15" wheel?? if so do you have the part number or what the longer stud came off of ill probably have to do the same thing | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 4,263 | The previous owner lowered the truck. I think it was a 3" lowering lief spring kit he put on front and back. And the tires and wheels lowered it about another 1 1/2" The longer studs were needed because of the LIERS, CROOKS, and THIEVES at Stockton wheel. Those are new wheels that were supposed to be custom back spaced to clear the brake kit. Well after waiting months and months for the wheels…. they didn’t clear the caliper. The only way I could use them is to use 1/4 inch spacers. Needed longer studs and had to go to a larger diameter. It was a total nightmare dealing with them. They refused to make the order right and straight up lied. I ordered the longer studs from my local CARQUEST auto parts. I don’t recall the brand. I took the old stud with me so they could match the shoulder diameter and length. the red wheels and black wheels are 15" this thread talks about extended lug nuts.
