I have been looking at getting a Holmes wrecker to put on my '46 Chevy COE for a couiple of years now...I finally went and did it yeterday.

But I need a little help (from Spanky I think...), the serial number is a little different than what I first thought. Here is the information on the side of the mast:
Cat No. 460
Serial No. RH1 1281

http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2142577280061479077XojagA?vhost=rides

Here is the information on the body tag:
Cat No. 814
Serial No. BH1 6894

http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2972240230061479077VdZBNl?vhost=rides

There are more pics of the wrecker body on the same site.
It looks like I am missing one of the cable spool assemblys for the passenger side boom. If anyone has any ideas of where to find a replacement...let me know.
Thanks,

That will be a Holmes model 460 Speed King. The Early model 515 Road Kings, & the model 460 Speed Kings used the Identifier letter designation "R". The last Road King 515 was built in Jan. of 1940, & was serial no. RAO-318. The first model 460 was built in Jul. 1948, & was serial no. RG8-500, & the last built in Apr., 1958 ser. no. RD8-3680. Your ser. no. RH1-1281, decifers to, "R" = 460 Speed King, "H" = August, "1" = 1951, "1281" = unit built. Nice unit. Can't wait to see it installed.

Spanky,
What about the second ID tag that is on the side of the body?
Do you have any information to decipher that as well?
Thanks,

Spanky, Thanks! for all the information, you are a great asset to this web site!

Do you have any ideas (resources) I might look into for getting the second winch spool and gears that I am missing?
Thanks

Unfortunately I scrapped out the junked Holmes Wreckers, I had. Can't think of any parts wreckers at the moment. Join www.tow411.net website, & see if anyone on there may have something. there's a "Vintage", & "Holmes" section you can check out.
