The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop Mounting a Unity Spotlight

My 1950 chevy 3100 came with a Unity Spotlight. The problem is the PO mounted it poorly. He drilled a hole thru the windshield pillar , slid it thru and that was pretty much it.I am going to keep this light but I have to find a way to mount it so it looks professional and is weather tight.
Any suggestions and pics are welcome.

As I remember it was kinda a problem to install one because they were made universal fit.
We always stuck them out from the corner of the dash under the windshield.
Then we gave up on that and started mounting them on center of the roof. It was an easy mount plus it gave you a spot lamp in all directions.

I know that's not what your looking for, so If it was me I'd stick that thing out thru a new hole where it looks good and weld up the hole in the A pillar.

Hi neighbor, well almost. I’ve got the same problem John. My ’50, 3600 was used as a fire truck and I think the volunteer firemen that mounted up the spot must have been having a beer party that night and snatched one off a car outside of the fire house. http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/image/120809710/large No that bend isn’t a distorted picture, that’s the way the holes were drilled and they had to bend the shaft to get it thru the pillar. My fix, when I get around to the cab body work, is going to be to weld up the pillar with the tig and then re-drill it using a drill guide that I will make up in the machine shop. That’s the only solution that I can see. I’m pretty sure the unit was meant for a different application and they tried to make it work on the truck. After I straighten out the hole I think I’m going to have to machine a new bracket for the out side. Millions of those spot lights were mounted successfully in the ‘A’ pillar of cars and trucks and it’s just a matter of using the proper fixture to drill the hole and fining proper brackets. Lots of brackets were offered depending on the application.

I know this is a mounting for a 60 Cab, but the advice is too good to pass up. You might want to do what Mark did but making a set of bushings.

Unity still sells installation kits for their lights. I bought mine from there. It came with a template and full instructions.

One of the worst sites that I've run into this year. Slow to load, no way to look up the kits for the vintage vehicles. I spent a half hour there and finally gave up.

you must be having a "hinterlands problem", lightening fast from here, you just need to know the model number you need or else read the first page and use the application search
