Well the 261 I picked up on the cheap needs EVERYTHING... drat!
So I'm looking for advice on parts. Specifically Piston and rings sets. Bore is currently for .040 pistons and is .05 over in one or two cylinders. So I guess I'll need +.060 Pistons for the rebuild.
The crank is scored enough that I can feel the marks with my fingernail. It could polish out but I doubt it.
I think I will send the cam off to Delta to be reground as it is worn pretty well.
I need some suggestions for Pistons, bearings (cam, main and rod) and a machine shop in the SF Bay area that knows their stuff.
I thought I had a guy but he messed up his back and after 3 weeks I had to show up there to find out.
I need the head gone through as well, Valves hardened seats etc.
Thanks!
Jeremy

I used Baca's in SSF. The Steves are straight up guys who will build you an awesome motor. They tend to stick closer to the stock builds, but will do extra work if it is required, including ballancing the rotational assembly.

Do some more reading on the hardened valve seats. Egge machine has lots of vintage engine parts.

Just had all the machine work done to my 216 and most of the parts came for EGGE. Pistons .020"os, rings, main and cam brgs, cam gear.
Had the crank ground .010"us.

Denny, who makes EGGE's stuff? I'm not lookin to build a hot rod 261 per se, I just want something that is tougher and stronger than the original 216. The 216 NOW runs wonderfully with a new head gasket but the water dripping from the cracked block is a little discouraging.
So the 261 needs built sooner than later.

EGGE makes a lot of their own stuff. I believe they make their own pistons. I knonw they do babiting and rod reworking. I think they are more into antique restoration than hot rodding.

a friend recommended Silv O Lite this today. He said to make sure and weigh them though as some he'd purchased for a project were not the same weight and he had to spend time with a dremel.

I am calling people tomorrow, as I can't even start the engine work without parts in hand.

wish someone would pick up my Monster.
