I can't find anything in the shop manual if you look a the shop manual on page 5-8 figure 13 you can kind of see the rod I'm talking about. Thanks John

There is a spring that hooks to the linkage that goes forward to the frame or sometimes to a bracket under an oil pan bolt. You can get a universal brake pedal return spring at any parts store. If the pedal works hard there is a plug on the front of the master cyl where the shaft goes through it. You can take out that plug & put a grease fitting in the hole & grease the pedal shaft. I think you need a pipe thread reducer for the 1/8 in grease fitting. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne SuperIn the Gallery Forum | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | John, this is a stock, original 1950, 3600 brake linkage: http://www.pbase.com/dennygraham/image/129934487/large As George said, if it is going to the floor, then you first need to fix the brakes and get a peddle. Hoping that will help, will also look at changing the spring.
The spring does not seem too strong. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 338 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 338 | Changed the spring - greased still no change.
Will replace the return springs on the shoes on each wheel. If still no go- will need to look at replacing master cylinder
Master Cylinder has a spring in it also correct? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,384 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2013 Posts: 1,384 | If you disconnect the peddle from the pushrod to the master, it should push down easily and spring back. if it doesn't take it apart and clean the bushing and make sure the spring is hooked up correctly. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 338 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2012 Posts: 338 | ok will give that a go - so why are the 1953 brake parts harder to find?
What is so different from 1952 vs 1953?
