Can anyone tell me what max weight is on a 55 chevy 4400.

Unladen it comes in at about 7000lbs - but I am not sure what they were rated to carry, I am guessing in region of 16k ?

thanks

The maximum GVW of a standard factory-equipped 1955 4400 (1st or 2nd series) was 14,000 lbs (with different tires/springs, the Max GVW ranged from 10,000-14,000 lbs). As asked above, what is listed on the ID plate?

The plate is unreadable, someone has sprayed over it.

Thanks for your help.

Use a aerosol can of paint remover spray over it lightly .Then use a plastic scraper and a rag to wipe it off.Works great !

Riot - the GVW isn't what the truck is rated to carry but the max weight when loaded. In other words if it's rated at 14,000 GVW and weighs 7000 then you can haul 7000 -- legally anyway.
