The best thing I see that I can do is notch the stock cross member and weld an S-10 Blazer or pickup mount in the cross member, then using the correct rubber connector mount. Here's my question - can that metal piece be bought somewhere so I can weld it into my existing cross member?

The transmsission tail mount was used for the torque tubes. When gm did away with the torque tubes the transmission just hung off the bellhousing without any rear support. I've done 3 T-5 changeovers & alway's put a universal crossmember under it. Look at all the braces it has from the factory.

| | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 1,897 | Actually the s10 has the mount there because it is the rear engine mount. 2 mounts up front on the side, 1 in the rear on the transmission makes the engine mounting "triangle". Our stovebolts make the triangle with the front mount, and the 2 rear mounts on the bellhousing. That rear crossmember is redundant on a stovebolt with a t5. Still it couldn't hurt to have one for the frame stiffening properties.

I used the orig. cross member and notched it as you suggested. I used the original rear taans mount from my 3spd and welded that into the notch. Then I used a standard T5 rear rubber mount and bolted that to the orig trans mount.
Check out the tech tips, there are some good pictures of what I'm talking about. If you can't find them let me know, I think I still have them on my computer.
