The one on the right is my stock 4sp. Transmission and the one on the left is my saginaw. Can you see the difference in bolt holes? because the bottom left one on the saginaw doesnt line up to the bellhousing. So you can get an answer to your question!! | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 587 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 587 | Don't know what you've got here, but I was thinking the later sag car trans would go right into old trucks till 67 or so and then they had bigger bearing housing on front. The bolt pattern stayed the same tho. Sure you got a sag for Chev? Maybe they made some x-ler or others? Wouldn't think any GM would have diff pattern either. Any thought on redrilling for new ear? Have heard of some doing this, sounds hard to me! PS, some old F-trucks had b/house with a narrow gap for bolt on right side, is that what you have? Their housings had the narrow and the wide spacing depending on what trans went in truck.

Still think it's for a diff brand! :p Not F*** as not narrow enough. AMC? Was wondering if that rope was on it to keep it from running away? :p

Did you find that a problem? Chevy went to bigger hole in bellhouse after 68 and these trans' won't fit earlier b/house. I was thinking the cars carried on the smaller one and if used from car will still work in old truck b/house. Is this trans from a truck? Didn't think they had small 4spd in trucks, how to shift? Think you need older trans to work for you. Lots of the cheap basic cars of 70's and 80's have these in them.

| | | | | | Anonymous Unregistered | | Anonymous Unregistered | Its NOT a GM box thats for sure. My bet is also AMC or mopar. It dont even look like a sag to me were the counter shaft goes in.. It dont matter as GL says it wont work anyway time to get rid of it and get the right box.Show a side view and we will tell you what its for. No #'s on the box..One thing for sure you got more than just a bolt problem. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 32 Member | | Member Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 32 | Thanks for the information. Everyone had the same diameter front bearing retainer, about 4-1/4 inches. Same as the hole in the older truck bellhousings, which are supposed to be the same from 48 on up.The bigger hole in the bellhousing applies to 68 and newer 4 spd trucks.I believe the trucks with 3 spd Saginaws still have the smaller opening.Looks like Bucks bellhousing may be the problem here.Perhaps GMC's are different, but a 235 housing will bolt up. | | |
