Well, just finshed up 2-1/2 days worth of effort stripping the rear fenders and bed on the '65. I used a Norton Rapid Strip wheel on my 4-1/2" angle grinder. They are great, if you haven't tried these you owe it to yourself to give them a try.

Man what a dirty job! I must say I am diggin' the look in bare steel though. I have a half a notion to just wipe it down with Gibbs and say Done! http://www.roadsters.com/gibbs/

For a picture go to post #148 of my build thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=363509&page=6

Spent 3 weeks stripping/sanding/straightening both rear doors on the burb. Today I painted the inside/jambs. Tomorrow if the weather cooperates I will attempt to paint the outside. The doors have been off for 6 years, can't wait to get them back on!

In Sept. I took my MAR-K box metal parts to the painter.Last saturday I parked the truck in its winter repair/storage place, after I get off this time waster(computer), I will organize my new reproduction door hardware and on saturday will start fixing the door latches ect. Next month or 2 I should be removing the old box, sending the rear fenders and running boards out for repair and paint.

Hot Rod John...just do the bare steel!! You know you want to. My '54 is staying in bare steel but I will be clear coating it for better protection. I currently have my bare parts covered in Evapo-Rust. Been sitting for a month or so now and the parts that have been covered have no rust at all. But I did scratch a fender a little when moving them and rust started to appear. So that tells me the stuff does work when applied, but like everything you have to let them sit awhile before moving them incase you scratch them or wipe off the liquid by accident.

Had to take several weeks off for honey do's and farm chores. Got a chance to finish steering and mounting column, brake booster and master cylinder, inner fenders require some trim and fitting. Picked up the freshly primed bed. I need to fab brake pedal and complete brake line routing, finish fuel tank mounting, put bed together and set on frame and ......the list goes on. LOL

After getting plates on my '49 , the 235 let go. Went on craigslist Sunday & scored a 235 with 20,000 on a rebuild. Finally took Neo for a spin today (Thurs.) with my mom. Other than being a little noisy, she enjoyed it. Then went to show my truck off to a friend. Went to gas station & chatted with 4 strangers & got one purchase offer. It has been one heck of a day!

Decided to remove the the 2 bottom leaves in the rear leaf pack. One was about 10" long and the next one was about 18" long. Made a 5/8" lowering block (approximate thickness of the 2 removed leaves) and bolted everything back up. The ol' 38 sets a lot better (always thought it was way too high in back), and a good test drive offered up a lot smoother ride.

I am in the midst of a frame off stock restoration of my 1950 COE grain truck. Started 2 1/2 years ago and it now moves on its own power. Built a temporary platform to sit on the frame superstructure and went for a drive today around the half mile loop the shop is on. Everything went well, the brakes are awesome (stock with hydrovac). Tomorrow I drive 3/4 mile up the road to the guy who is painting the cab and we will drop the cab on this weekend. I can't wipe the smile off my face, I wonder why?

Weather cooperated today and I was able to finish painting both rear doors on my burb. Now if I can be patient, let the paint dry and put them back on come monday.

Got a ton done this weekend! Sanded and primed a bunch of misc parts, ran most of the brake lines, got the transmission and clutch installed along with the torque tube and rebuilt the rear brakes! Whew!

I got the bed completely disassembled, sanded down, rust proofed and primed. Then I used a roll on bed-liner on the inner sides. A little messy to use, but the results were great. I had trouble getting masking tape to stick to it so I could paint the non-coated outer parts, so now I have some overspray on the liner that will need to be touched up. Glad I have some coating left over to use on this.

Meanwhile Sunday we took her for a ride, sans bed, about 25 miles to donate blood. I am still having trouble with the steering box adjustment. I have it a little too tight and have to constantly make steering adjustments. This added to the play in the wheel makes highway driving a real chore.

I'm still a ways off, but trying to be ever so patient.
I'm in the middle of breaking down my '58, 235.
Yesterday evening I hand-polished the camshaft then oiled, tagged and bagged it.
Hopefully today, I can do the same for the crankshaft.
Baby steps...

Test fit the disc brake conversion kit to the front axle on the '39 GMC. Had to notch the caliper brackets to fit around the steering stops. Pulled everything back apart, primed and painted. Plan to have everything back together this week and put the whole assembly back under the frame. Then it will be on to the rear suspension and axle.

Got a free set of rear drums, a complete third member, a free radiator, new headliner, new sunvisors, and a used but good tailgate today. Removed front drums to inspect and make a replacement list, cleaned frame, removed all original wiring

More grinding and welding. The rear stake pockets on my stepside were butchered by the PO. I made some 1-1/2 x 2 rectabgular tubes out of some 2 x 2 tubing. Then cut the stock openings slid the new tubes in, welded and ground them flush. Here's a photo: http://inlinethumb14.webshots.com/29005/2466836390103882008S600x600Q85.jpg

Tore the wheel cylinders apart and honed them...looks like new kits will be ordered, not new cylinders. Re-installed axle and third member, started engine and shifted thru the 4 spd gears and new clutch...all works good.

Still hand cleaning and bagging parts for storage from the '58 235 engine.
So far, camshaft, lifters, screws and bolts, pushrods, connecting rod and main bearing caps, crankshaft... (taking a breath).
Next will be the rocker assembly and pistons. Still a lot left to go and yet the '59 engine waiting to be disassembled.
I hope to get a lot done this weekend! Still LOVING it!

Now that I have risen back from the dead, recently installed the torque tube and tranny with help of nrdesieyes this past Sunday. Yesterday was tranny support, spark plugs, rear axles, differential cover. Today I'm dumping in oil in both diff and tranny and fire the green turd up.

Jock, It's because they come from Southoftheborder.
I set it in the cab and hopped up on it. It fit really good, however at 6'1 I have gotten use to a little more leg room. With the gas tank in the back and the seat back as far as she will go, there's no adjustment. It will work out as my wife will be able to drive it as well.

Replaced the headlight rings. I noticed that there is a big difference in the attachment brackets than the originals where.

Still cleaning and bagging/storing parts from the '58 235.
Rocker arm assembly, pistons timing gear and cover, front plate... etc.
Hopefully today I'll have the rocker cover, water pump and oil pan cleaned. I still have 5 out of 6 pistons/connecting rods to free-up.
I'm ready to mount the block onto the engine stand, give it a good going over and AT LAST get to the '59 235!

The wiring continues,i'm only managing a bout 3 hours a week on the truck at the moment. Not through choice though.
I've got all my gauges, steering column and engine bay done.
I hope to get the rear end done tomorrow.

Just to 'throw a spanner in the works, I dropped one of my front parking light lenses as I was removing it,you can work out the rest.........
Thankfully a replacement is on the way and didn't break the bank.
