I have a 54 bed installed along with my 54 cab on a 53 frame. Yes, the hump over the rear axle has been modified (lowered and boxed). Everything fits as you can see on my truck pictures. I would like to try installing the cross sills in the original locations if possible. Would anyone with an original 54 bed be willing to give me the measurements, front to rear, of placement? How many inches to the center of the first cross sill, from the front to the center of the second, etc. I don't have any trucks around me to look at. Dan

Since you will need bed strips (if you plan a wood bed), all the marks are right there. I would mock up the rear cross sill and measure locations for the other bolted-on sills from the holes in the strips.

hello 54 dd. just measured the locations of the cross bars on my 55 first series short box. using the corresponding strip bolt heads,, from the centers,[REARMOST BOLT MEASURING FORWARD],from the first bar,, the second bar is 22 3/4 in.,,,the third bar is 26 3/4 in. from the second,, and the fourth bar [most forward] is 24 1/8 in. from the third. be careful if you locate the bars using the holes in the strips as some of the holes do not correspond to the cross bars. some of the bolts just use washers and nuts on the bottom side. hope this helps.

Dan I'm not physically capable of measuring things right now, but I have two '54 1/2-ton beds setting here and you'd be welcome to come over and measure and photograph all you want.

I'm in the Island Center area on Bainbridge Island so its no more than 50 or so miles from anywhere that can be called Port Townsend.
