| | THANKS!
For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 9 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 9 | I just bought a 1951 3100 truck from Missouri and it doesn't have a vin plate. Where do I find the vin # on the frame? The title I got from Missouri lists the engine # as the vin #. I live in CA and I'm not sure I can register it.

The ID tag is normally on the drivers side front door post. If your engine number still matches the title you are in pretty good shape. You will be able to register it anyway, its will just depend on how many hoops you have to jump thru. My California native truck had its 1952 216 replaced with a 1953. I had to take the truck to the Highway Patrol of their verification since it was out of the system after sitting 24 years. A real test of patience ensued. I had documentation I got via this forum that showed the original ID number issued to the truck was a 1952 216 engine number. It also showed the engine in the truck to be a 1953 engine. The door ID tag information identified the truck as a 1952 and even the date and location of production. I had a maintenance log for all work done to the truck, including the engine change. I had the pink slip (with the old engine number) and last registration. The Highway Patrol drone would not even look at any thing I had, even after repeated requests. He indicated the door tag did not match the pinkslip. I tried to convince him they used the engine number and things deteriorated. When he finally looked at the engine he told me there were not enough numbers according to his book. I was as (frustrated) as he seemed to be by then and told him he was wrong. Said he would research it and wanted to know exactly where the truck would be parked. Two weeks later the CHP office called and said I could pickup my papers- everything was in order. No explanation of the delay or indication their info was wrong.
So I am sure you can get it done. I just hope you have a better experience than I did.
Chuck

You should have no trouble registering the truck if the engine number matches what is on the title. However, from stories I've read about CA DMV, you might. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 9 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2009 Posts: 9 | thanks for the info. I'll have to see what the DMV says now.
