I have a '59 Chevy 3800 that I'm looking to pass on to someone with more interest, time, knowledge, etc... I got the thing 10 years ago and drove it quite a bit for a couple years, but as the kids get older, I find myself with less and less time for the old thing. For the last several years, the truck has been sitting in a garage that is damp and unheated and I am worried that if I continue to let it sit, it will deteriorate.

This truck is original with only about 43,000 original miles. It's been in my family since its original purchase - my uncle's father bought it as a work truck. It was painted at one point and was done so by the local vo-tech so it isn't a great job, but it isn't terrible.

The post is to ask about how to price this thing... there isn't a lot of 3800s out there for comparison. I've looked around a bit, but this isn't a project and it isn't a resto. Any ideas?

The truck has the original 235ci with a 4sp on the floor. Everything is good except the wood in the bed - which I'd like to replace as a winter project.

I'm not an expert on this but here's something to compare to. I bought a '57 3800 on an online auction. It belonged to a wildlife refuge and only had 28000 miles. It has a grain bed, is in very good shape, needs a paint job and some sprucing up. I gave $3400 for it 2 years ago. That was before the economy went completely belly up. I would expect it to be a little lower now. If yours had a 9' stepside bed, I think they're rare so it might add some value. Just my thoughts, hope it helps.

I picked up my '49 3800 (Canadian built) this past summer for $4500. They were asking $5000 - and as you I tried to find something to compare to.

Mine has a hydraulic lift, and the frame and body were in great shape, a very complete truck.

Thanks guys - both of your numbers are in the range I have in my head. I don't even know if I'm gonna sell it, but it hurts me to see it just sitting and not being used...
