Got my '48 216 running - sounds sweet! But... clutch does not dis-engage enough to change gears, even after adjusting to the limit. I have another clutch, but my question is, and I am guessing I know the answer, can you change the clutch without removing the engine? The bellhousing rests on the rear cross member, so it would have to be removed, which leaves the front mount! Seems to me I might as well remove the whole shootin match and do it outside the truck!

Just disconnect the torque tube and the driveshaft, then pull the transmission. That big hole at the bottom of the bellhousing is there to allow you to remove and replace the clutch and pressure plate. No need to remove the bellhousing- - - -in fact, it can't be unbolted from the block without removing the pressure plate, clutch, and flywheel first. I think the flat rate labor time on a clutch change was just about 2 1/2 hours or less back when I was working for a living.
