For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 378 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 378 | I checked the compression on my 56' 235 cid. #1-75,#2-95, #3-95, #4-100, #5-100, #6-75. These were taken with the engine "cold." I know it's supposed to be Hot, but I had all the plugs out and thought I'd go ahead and check it cold. Does anyone have any idea if this reading is OK? Hot would be better I know. Thanks, Steven | | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 137 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 137 | Seems low to me. I think ours was around 135 (give or take 5) when cold. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 378 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 378 | Well I thought it might be. Now, I have the orig. 216 a 1955 235--a vortect 350 and a 1953 276 Desoto Firedom Hemi, or rebuild the 56, 235. I really don't know what I'm gonna do. Guess I'll drive this on for a while yet. Thanks, Steven | | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 137 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 137 | I'd say rebuild the 235 or go with the 350, if it were me. The V8 conversion is a bit of a pain, though, or so I've heard. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 378 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2010 Posts: 378 | Believe it or not, I road in a 1953 327 with an auto and let me tell you something. That truck was FAST. I might go that route. Thanks again. Steven | | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 137 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 137 | The 235 will get up and go, too. I think it just lacks a little in the top-end. Before switching to 17" rims and big, heavy tires, I was pretty impressed with how our stock 235 would get our '54 3600 out of the hole. And really, in 4th there is still a lot of throttle left. More than I am willing to give it until we get better tires, anyway. | | |
