I finally got around to pulling apart the driveline of my '40 GMC 3/4 Ton Special to replace the front U-joint. So now I have the old joint and yokes out and need to get the speedo drive gear off the old yoke and installed on the new one. Has anyone successfuly removed one of these without destroying it? What is the best way? There is very little to grab onto and I'm afraid the teeth will chip if I'm not very careful. Here's a pic of the new and old one:

I thought about heating up the gear, then clamping it in a vise with 2 pieces of wood to grab the gear, then using a stepped mandrel, press out the yoke from the gear. But before I attempt it, I'd like to hear from you guys.

Thanks,
Steve
