If you hook DC to a coil of copper wire you get an electro magnet.

What if you hook AC to the same coil?

Yes to the DC,simple experiment, 16d nailwrapped with wire and connected to a 'D' bat.
And you get a choke with AC.

My dad had an AC coil on his work bench he used to magnetize and de-magnetize screw drivers.
